Fly me to Germany.

-post from September 4th-

It's happening! I'm on the plane right now. It's a 9 hour flight from Charlotte, NC to Munich, Germany. I don't have words for all the thoughts going on in my head.

Where to start? ok, well first of all I'm on a HUGE plane. I've never seen a plane this big or nice before. Eight seats across and two aisles. Each passenger has their own tv screen with a USB port for charging as well as a place to plug in headphones. On said tv screen, you can watch any of the variety of movies they have to offer (several of which are still in theaters). I watched the Internship and part of The Great Gatsby. We also received complimentary pillows, blankets, and headphones. If you know me well, you can probably picture me being way overly excited for all these little things all over this plane. Only downside is wifi costs 30 dollars, soooo that definitely wasn't an option.

Also, I'm already experiencing a little bit of culture shock. All the pre-flight instructions were in German, so I just sat there like an idiot not understanding a word they were saying. Thankfully, I've heard that spiel many times before.

Another strange cultural difference: when the cart of drinks came around, almost everyone around me asked for tomato juice with salt and pepper to stir in... uhm.. wouldn't be my first choice, but I guess it's a thing. I'm all about trying new things this semester, but I decided to just stick to good ol water for the flight. Oh and at one point they came through the aisle selling packages of cigarettes.. I guess they're cheaper in America than in Europe, but I thought they were giving conflicting messages by selling them considering we were on a PLANE.

I'm in the middle section and have an aisle seat, which is nice so I don't feel claustrophobic. Except the man across the aisle from me keeps getting up to remove something from the overhead compartment, and I guess he didn't feel the need to wear deodorant today. Awesome.

But, if stinky armpit man and wifi are the only bad things about this nine hour flight, I definitely won't be complaining.

Next stop: Munich, Germany then headed to Dorfgastein (small village in the Alps) for orientation!
